Just in time

Sorry about not posting the music I promised. Busy with IKEA. Tomorrow morning for sure.

You want another contest?

How about it Ben? Can you do this one... The 3 Day Novel contest?

Maybe we could enact something similar? Turn this blog contest into something more productive?

There is also this: National Novel Writing Month. Sounds like fun I think.

Sad News

Naguib Mahfouz died today in Cairo.

He was one of the greats.

Hate a song?

This might be the kind of thing the Yo La Tengo bloggers are into.

Has someone ruined a song for you?

Sorry.

I've been kind of rushed lately, and haven't had the chance to put up more music in the past couple of days. Tomorrow, to make up for it, I'll post 2 or 3 albums, maybe. If people want them, I'll put up the new Yo La Tengo and The Rapture albums.

Let me know if you do want them.

Why is it so hard

to find a copy of Trivial Pursuit Genus 6 for sale in NYC? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I am looking to get it for tonight, if possible. (Call or message me if you have a brilliant solution right away.)

Back on track

So the internet at my house seems to functioning normally, at least for the moment, so I was able to upload some music for you all. Here's the album from Blood Feathers, a band in the collective folk/pop genre, I suppose, sort of a cross between Animal Collective and Feathers.

Blood Feathers - Curse & Praise

Let me know what you all think.

Internet is still messed up.

Internet is still messed up. Yet another phone blog placeholder. Need to get own router.

Saturday, August 26, 2006

Oh shit.

Oh shit. Almost forgot to post today. Kept waiting for the music upload to work, but no luck.

A Novel Outline

This is what the outline for Toby Litt's new novel is looking like.

I will never be a writer.

Fine Dining

My internet connection seems to be down at home, so no music this morning. Maybe not at all today.

Meanwhile, check out this amazing post about a trip to El Bulli, one of the most famous restaurants in the world. It's from a few days ago, but I figured I needed to fill up my post with something nice for a Friday.

Dinner at El Bulli

Make sure to check out the pictures. After this, in my head I am already planning my trip to Barcelona.

Some Poetry

Via

Ron Silliman noted that the poet Carol Bergé passed away recently. I am not too familiar with her work, but what I've seen I've liked a lot. Silliman links to some of her poetry available online, like this excerpt from The Unexpected.

THE SMALL TOWN

What each of us does
is so interesting.
Especially to each other.
Interesting to each other.
What we do
to and with each other.
This is the most
interesting place on
earth at the most
interesting possible time.
Here. Right now. We are
right, now; we are right
here. We are all right.
Yes, we are all here.
Here we are, and it is
all we are. All of it is so
interesting, to each other,
what a place to be placed
in, in history,
at this time on earth!
Doing what we do, the way
we do it, to and with
each other. And always
so interested in each other.
If you move here, you
will automatically be here
too, and you will be
part of what we do
a moving part of it all
and therefore interesting
while you are doing and
being done to.
Meantime, we are all here
in this place and it is
the best place to be
more now than ever.

I'd recommend trying to find and read as much of her work as you can.

[By the way, this post was made using Google's word processing program, Writely , which is kind of great. On the other hand, does anyone know how to force spacing on Blogger?]

Extree! Extree!

The hot shit band from Brooklyn of the moment. Get it before they're the new Liars or whatever.

Tunes for tonight

Only one song, but it's a good one. An excellent remix from Ratatat. Have fun.

The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health (Ratatat Remix)

Hotdamn

I don't know if it was me haranguing, or Ben's comment as to the quality of the Electrelane album, but the downloads for that are through the roof. Ahead of Decemberists, ahead of Squarepusher.

Maybe I should be suspicious...

New reads

I am very excited that I now have this in my possession.

It's not coming out until February, but I am getting a big head start on all the buzz that always accompanies the arrival of a new Paul Auster book.

this goes on your face

Ha!

But also kind of frightening.

Morning Music

To get away from the indie rock a little bit, here is the new Squarepusher album. It's more jazzy, like his earlier albums, than his newer ones. Hope you like.

Squarepusher - Hello Everything

Monday, August 21, 2006

hey

so i got 15 16 downloads of the decemberists, but only 1 of electrelane? what gives?

also, 15 16 downloads and no comments?

i don't even know if this thing works well. leave a word or two if you download.

Wallace on Tennis 2

The previous post was about this article:

Federer as Religious Experience

It's pretty good David Foster Wallace. Though tennis, and Federer, might not be your usual daily read, since it's DFW it ends up being much more than just an article about sports. If only more sports writing was like this.

I really like DFW, though I think he coasts sometimes. So I am hoping that he is working on something to rival the gargantuan new Pynchon novel.

Wallace on Tennis

Fuck.

something happened with my template, and in trying to fix it I erased this post.

Decemberists

I am sure that everyone who is anyone already has this, but I thought I'd officially start the contest with a big release, so here is the new Decemberists album. I like it quite a bit, so if you don't have it already, enjoy!

The Decemberists - The Crane Wife

Ok, back to work for now.

[Edit: So I didn't realize that this was their debut on a major label. Since I have no desire to get sued, I am going to leave it up for a couple of days, and then take it down. Get your downloading kicks in now.]

Electrelane - Singles, B-Sides & Live

From an unexpected café by Port Authority

Phone post!

Phone post!

Damn.

Today I learned that Ben doesn't care enough about me to have my birthday on his Google calendar.

Also, I tried to post using my phone and failed. Will try and try again though.

The Contest

I am resurrecting one of my many defunct blog names for Ben's challenge. I think I might have a better chance this time around, since I am often at the computer at work with some free time on my hands.

This whole thing kind of seems like an ego-trip, doesn't it Ben? To see how many people you can get to move their fat fingers in order to type up something for you? I guess I support that though, so my fat fingers will play along.

I'll probably post new music that I hear, taking advantage of the new RarHost to do so, so check back here for links.
